The RAF left and the airfield closed on 21 January 1946. Turweston was then taken over on care and maintenance and administered by the Army/War Office. It was disposed of on 25 May 1960 and remained disused until the 1980s when a local gliding club moved onto the airfield. Turweston airfield officially reopened for General Aviation on 1 April 1994 and it continues to grow and is now a very popular destination for pilots, probably because of the friendly welcome and great café which is always a winning formula!
