Bloodhound Missiles


Where were the Bloodhound Missiles based in the UK?

The Bloodhound Missile was a Surface-to-Air (SAM) which was used as the main air defence missile from when it was developed in the 1950's until it was retired in the 1990's. It was also used by Australia, Myanmar, Singapore, Sweden and Switzerland. The UK bases were as follows:

  • Barkston Heath, Lincolnshire (Mk.2)
  • ​Bawdsey, Suffolk (Mk.2)
  • Breighton, Yorkshire (Mk.1)
  • Carnaby, Yorkshire (Mk.1)
  • ​Dunholme Lodge, Lincolnshire (Mk.1)
  • ​Marham, Norfolk (Mk.1)
  • Misson, Nottinghamshire (Mk.1)
  • ​North Coates, Lincolnshire (Mk.1& Mk.2)
  • ​Rattlesden, Suffolk (Mk.1)
  • ​Warboys, Huntingdonshire (Mk.1)
  • ​Wattisham, Suffolk (Mk.2)
  • ​Watton, Norfolk (Mk.1)
  • ​West Raynham, Norfolk (Mk.2)
  • Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire (Mk.1& Mk.2)
