It is understood that Hardstand No.9, one of the few remaining hardstands at Bassingbourn, was the one that the B-17 'Memphis Belle' parked on when it was based at here. The crew of this particular aircraft were one of the first to have completed 25 missions during the war, they later became the subject of a Hollywood film.
