MEMORIAL SITE : Church of St Mary the Virgin

MEMORIAL SITE : Joyce Frankland Academy

Wing Commander James Hardy Marks DSO & Bar, DFC & Bar was the pilot of Halifax (W7657) of 35 Squadron, Bomber Command. On the night of 19-20 September 1942 the aircraft was shot down on a raid to Saarbrucken, He and two others died, the three that survived became POW's. Wing Commander Marks, Flight Lieutenant Child and Pilot Officer Leith-Hay-Clark are buried in Choloy War Cemetery. Wing Commander Marks was a pupil at the school and he, along with the crew of W7657 are remembered with a Memorial Plaque in the great hall.
