George Eric Collins (Civillian)
George Eric Collins was a British glider pilot and an instrument maker from Flamstead, Hertfordshire. He mastered the art of using thermal air currents for soaring and made several cross country flights from Dunstable Downs, one of those flights he set a record for distance in a two seater. He also earned the first British international Silver Badge for Gliding. George was tragically killed at Upwood in 1935 while doing glider acrobatics in Alan Cobham's Air Circus.
